Making Math Meaningful  - A New Workshop for Para-educators

August’s training highlight was our first “Making Math Meaningful” workshop especially for para-educators. Designed and taught by Steve Kinholt, in partnership with Puget Sound Educational Service District, the workshop provided 20 hours of fun, hands-on training in math concepts and methods for working with elementary school children. Thirteen para-educators from the South Puget Sound region focused on increasing their competence in core math concepts, expanding their repertoire of tools for working with children on math, and assessing their current math skills relative to career goals such as taking the Para-Pro test or completing an AA degree. Participant feedback was enthusiastic, and we hope to offer this or similar workshops each summer.
