Future Teachers Conditional
Scholarship
The Future Teachers Conditional
Scholarship and Loan Repayment Program has
received additional funding from the 2005 Legislature. The
application form, the program fact sheet, and the application
open and close dates will be available on the Higher Education
Coordinating Board website on July 1st:
http://www.hecb.wa.gov/paying/waaidprgm/future.asp.
This award is available to
students seeking their initial teaching certification and to
current teachers seeking additional endorsements in certain
subject matter shortage areas. Eligible bilingual students will
receive additional priority during the selection process, as
will eligible students intending to teach in specified subject
shortage areas.
There are two ways for selected
participants to receive the benefits of this program: through a
conditional scholarship or through repayments against federal
student loans. After completing their educational program,
recipients are obligated to a specific length of teaching
service in a Washington public K-12 school in exchange for the
benefit. Teaching in a shortage subject can accelerate the rate
at which the teaching obligation is fulfilled.

program, please contact Mary Knutson at (360) 753-7845, Julie
Japhet at (360) 753-7840, or John Klacik at (360) 753-7851.
